Introduction

Drs Zweli and May Mkhize are the founders of Ikusasa LeAfrika Foundation (ILAF), a non-profit organisation based in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal focusing on improving the livelihood of communities.

Dr Zweli Mkhize is the chairman of the board and a non-executive director of ILAF. He holds a MBChB degree and has served the KwaZulu-Natal province as the MEC for Health (1994-2004). Dr May Mkhize is a Board Member of the Ikusasa LeAfrika Foundation (ILAF), South African Women Entrepreneurs’ Network and the Targeted Aids Intervention and is a trustee of the Batho Batho Trust. She holds degrees in Medicine and Surgery.

Drs Zweli and May Mkhize bursary fund’s aim is to provide financial support to individuals interested in Medicine, Chattered Accounting and Engineering. The bursary scheme considers the holistic needs of the student. It covers tuition, accommodation and a personal allowance.

Requirements (The following requirements apply)

  • South African citizen
  • Household income not to exceed R15 000 per month. (We require supporting documents from you and we will verify this independently).
  • If unemployed, provide an affidavit to that effect.
  • Copy of letter of acceptance into an approved programme in a South African university.
  • Achieved a pass mark of 65%.
  • All applicants will be subjected to a selection process.
  • Application closing date: 30th November 2017.
  • Only those who apply by the closing date will be considered.
  • We only support one member per family.

Documents Required (the following documents must accompany the application)

  • Copy of your ID, plus your parent’s/guardian’s ID.
  • Pay slips of parents or Affidavits for unemployed parents.
  • Proof of Social Grants for parents and guardians who receive it.
  • Latest Academic record (Grade 11, Matric June Exams, or latest university exams).
  • 3 months’ bank statement from your parents/guardian, from all of their bank accounts.
  • Copy of letter of acceptance into an approved programme in a South African university.
  • Your NBT Scores.

Failure to submit all the relevant documents will result in your application being discarded. If this happens, you will not be notified.
