Ikusasa LeAfrika Foundation (ILAF) is a non-profit organisation based in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal. It was founded by Dr Zweli Mkhize who is also the chairperson of ILAF. ILAF was established with the aim of contributing to the social and economic development of marginalized communities. Our focus is to see community programmes become self-sustainable without undue reliance on government.
The strategic intent of ILAF is to tackle the challenges of poverty, unemployment and inequality by:
- Building capacity and providing training facilities for a home-based food production.
- Providing bursaries and facilitating access to tertiary education for qualifying students.
- Providing leadership training for youth and increase participation of youth in the economy.
Our mission is to create a new African society that will liberate itself from within, using its own resources to fight poverty, unemployment and other social ills.
We have a vision of a prosperous, innovative and effective society and to be a centre for social and economic change focused on improving lives and creating opportunities in the communities we serve.
